Meet Your Photographer

Hi I’m Katie Warnke (pronounced VARN-kuh), and I’m thrilled that you’re here!

I specialize in professional headshots for savvy business people in Denver, Colorado and my hometown, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Sometimes people think of headshots as a painful, 3-minute process and you’re done. Headshots like all genres of photography, take finesse. Yes, it’s possible to get a good headshot in the first few minutes, but why not stick around a few more and see how it goes? I also photograph brand stories: showing current and potential clients all aspects of who you are, what you do and where you do it. It gives people a better sense of who they’ll be working with. They’ll feel like they know you when they come to do business with you. These sessions combine my headshot and portrait skills with my photojournalism background. I really enjoy them. See images of those on my Instagram.

When I moved to Denver in June of 2009, from Boca Raton, Florida, my sister flew in from France, to drive cross country with me. The year before she asked for a date so she could plan her schedule. Without giving it much thought, I said, June! You know, mid year, nice weather. Turns out that’s the most popular time of year to move, of course. So moving trucks and all things move are priced at a premium. When we pulled into our destination, our cousin’s place in Highlands Ranch, my odometer said 2222.22!!! My favorite number many times over. This was a sign. I knew I was in the exact right place for me at this time in my life.

I restarted my photography business here. One of my first jobs was photographing a series of headshots. Word got out and I was asked to do about 20 more for Denver’s Small Business Development Center. I realized there was a market for headshots to publish on websites, LinkedIn, annual reports, speaking engagements, resumes and social media. I began photographing more and more headshots until it became my niche.

You can come to my studio located in the RiNo Arts District, or I can come to your office in the greater Denver metro area and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, too. Please call me if you’re interested in bringing me to you, wherever you are: 303-588-7446.

I love to hike with my dog, Rosie. I rediscovered cross-country skiing last winter. You’ll find me in the garden most weekends. I joined a climbing gym this year. I love to dance - it’s a happy way to exercise, and hang with friends.

I received my Bachelors of Science in Visual Communication (photojournalism) from Ohio University in 1995. My first job out of college was at the News-Press in Fort Myers, Florida. Before that I interned at my home town newspaper, the Milwaukee Journal in Wisconsin. It was so cool to be back home, but now as a professional photographer putting my new skills to work. My first internship was at the Chronicle-Telegram in Elyria, Ohio. That’s where I cut my teeth as a staff photographer photographing sports, spot news, features, portraits, headshots! Throughout my career, I have photographed historical moments; presidential campaigns; the 1999 Broncos win at Super Bowl XXXIII for USA Today; the World’s Fair in Lisbon, Portugal; wildfires from a helicopter; jet ski races from above on a parasail; private moments of celebration, loss and mourning. I am thankful for each of these experiences and for the awards and honors I have received along the way.

I was the 2020-2022 president of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) Colorado chapter. Before that I was the Events Chair from 2018-2020. ASMP’s core mission is to advocate, educate and provide community for image makers, to promote thriving careers and a strong sense of professional ethics. As president, I lived by these values and fostered a welcoming and inclusive environment for all photographers, meaning every race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexuality, ability and religion. If you’re a photographer and would like more information about ASMP, go to our national website here. There are some 38 chapters, so you can find community on a local level.

If you really made it this far, thank you for your interest! There will be a quiz at our photo session. =)
